Haycock to adjust taxes for first time in 47 years

Residents of Haycock Township can expect property taxes to double for 2009 from 1.25 mills to 2.5 mills. The last time residents of Haycock experienced a property tax adjustment was in 1962 when township officials decreased the tax rate by 3 mills. For homeowners with a property assessed at the township average of $30,000, they will pay about $75 in 2009, compared to $37.50 in 2008. Township officials approved a proposed 2009 budget of $609,650, a 1.2 percent decrease from 2008.

Haycock has fewer than 2,200 residents, and over 50 percent of the township consists of state game lands: Nockamixon State Park and Lake Towhee Park.
